English film actor and Globe Award winner, Idris Elba OBE, has expressed his readiness to build a modern film studio in Ghana.
The British actor made this known when he met President Nana Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House on Friday, February 3, 2023.
He discussed, among other things, the importance of film to the land of his mother’s birth, Ghana.
He shared President Akufo-Addo’s post on his Facebook page “On Friday, 3rd February 2023, I received English actor Idris Elba OBE at the Jubilee House of the Nation’s Presidency as part of efforts to promote the “Beyond Return” initiative of Africans in the Diaspora and those of African descent. The time has come to engage all individuals more positively in areas such as trade and investment cooperation, and skills and knowledge development.
Idris Elba, once described as the sexiest man alive, discussed plans to build film studios across Africa and the need for a comprehensive plan to bring Ghana to the fore in terms of film making.
Before visiting Ghana, the actor visited Tanzania where he held talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Since coming to power, President Akufo-Addo has undertaken a series of reforms in foreign policy, trade, commerce and investment.
President Akufo-Addo welcomed German Finance Minister Christian Lindner to Jubilee House where discussions focused on strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Immediately after, a delegation from the Ga Traditional Council was at the Presidency to inform about the funeral rites of the late Queen Mother of Ga State.
