So far, seven NPP leaders have made public their intentions to lead the party.
Already, two of them have resigned from their cabinet positions and are set to win the hearts and minds of party representatives.

The other seven contestants, all prominent members of the NPP, the Vice President, Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia; Former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko; Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has been appointed Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central.
The others are former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joe Gherte, who is also the MP for Escicado-Ceytan; Francis Addai-Nimoh, former Member of Parliament for Mampong; Kofi Konadu Apraku, who is also a former Member of Parliament for Afinso North.

Allan Kyremonten
Allan Kyremonten is a promising presidential candidate to lead the NPP in 2024.
Kyremattan, who participated in the race in 2008 and 2012, is putting on his boots for the competition.

Joe Hart announced his intention to run for president in 2024
Essikadu Ketan Constituency MP Joe Gharte has announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2024.
The lawmaker is one of the few names tipped to vie for the NPP flag bearer position when Nana Addo’s tenure ends.
Gharte, who doubles as Minister of Railways and Development, was part of the NPP presidential nomination contest ahead of the 2008 elections.
He finished 3rd in the race behind Nana Addo and Alan Kyrematen respectively.
Joe Gurte announced his intention to run again for the seat before the 2016 general election.
He filed nomination for the seat along with six other aspirants. Under the NPP’s constitution, a special delegates’ congress was held on August 31, 2014 by the party to reduce the number of aspirants to five.
He was in third place but decided not to go to the second round and supported the winning candidate, Nana Addo.
He has now announced that he is in the race for the flag bearer of the NPP and is favored to lead the party in the 2024 elections.
Gharte is the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and the Deputy Attorney General in Ghana.
Dr. A.S. Afriyie Akoto laces his boots to compete
Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has said he is interested in running for the presidency on the ticket of the NPP.
According to him, a senior member of the party, he deserves the seat.
He said it would be an honor if his party representatives chose him to run for president in the 2024 elections.
He is credited with introducing programs like Planting for Food and Jobs, Cultivation for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, Farm Mechanization and Five Units of Greenhouse Technology. Scale up the system and recruitment of more than 1,000 vets, which is ongoing.
Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia
Vice President Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia’s grassroots supporters have launched their aggressive campaign to succeed Nana Addo in 2024, among others.

Bokye Agyarko – The best of Bokye Agyarko
Boakye Agyarko is a banker, economist, former Minister of Energy and a founding member of the NPP in 1992.
He was appointed National Campaign Manager of the NPP in the 2012 presidential election and Policy Adviser to the NPP’s presidential candidate in the 2016 election.
Francis Addai-Nimoh is lacing up his boots to contest again in the upcoming primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be chosen as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 presidential election.
Addai-Nimoh said Ghana needs a pragmatic, honest and competent leader to serve as president, which is the main motivation for vying for the highest office in the land with the NPP.
He said that the NPP’s agenda of breaking the 8 is only possible if a new face is introduced as the party’s candidate for the general elections.
He contested the presidential primaries of the NPP in 2014 and lost the bid.
Addai-Nimoh’s first election campaign was in 2008 when he was elected Member of Parliament for the Mampong constituency in the Ashanti region, serving with the NPP until 2017.
He served as the ranking member of Parliament on the Select Committee on Environment, Science and Technology.
Although initially relatively unknown at the time, Addai-Nimoh ran in the 2014 NPP flag bearer leadership race and came 3rd out of 7 candidates, when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo became the party leader.
Dr. Konadu is irrelevant
Dr. Konadu Apraku, economist, former Minister of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD and Minister of Trade and Industry in the former President Kufuor administration.
In 2008, he was appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Council of Ministers as the ECOWAS Commissioner for Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research, where he was responsible for the multilateral surveillance mechanism.
Dr. Apraku was also a member of the Second, Third and Fourth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic.
He was one of the 17 aspirants who contested for the NPP’s flag bearer seat in 2007 ahead of the 2008 elections.
Kwabena Agyepong announced the contest
Kwabena Agyepong joins a growing list of individuals who have announced their intention to contest the party’s flag bearer contest.
He played roles in the campaigns of NPP presidential candidates Albert Adu Bohen in 1992 and John Kufur in 1996.
He played a role in Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign to win the presidential nomination in 1998 but later played a role in the party’s overall effort in the 2000 general election won by John Kufuor.
He served as John Kufur’s press secretary from 2001 to 2006.
Kwabena Agyapong was one of the 17 aspirants who vied for the party’s nomination to replace John Agyekum Kufure as the presidential candidate for the 2008 elections.
Kwabena Agyepong was the Secretary General of the NPP and was suspended from the party in 2015.
Kennedy Agyapong
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has formally announced that he will contest as his party’s flag bearer in the 2024 elections.
Explaining that he is more of a leader than a politician, he said that as a leader he is more focused on national development whereas politicians focus on the next election.
He was first elected as Member of Parliament for Asin North in 2000.
He retained his seat in the 2004 and 2008 parliamentary elections.
In 2012 he was elected to the new seat of Assin Central and re-elected in 2016.
He retained his seat in the 2020 general elections as well. He is currently the Chairman of the Parliament’s Defense and Interior Committee and a member of the Judiciary Committee and also a member of the Special Budget Committee.
