Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and Economic Security Bureau raided the home of Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky in Dnipro on the morning of February 1, Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrainska Pravda reported, according to the Kyiv Independent, citing anonymous law enforcement sources.
“The oligarch is accused of evading customs payments and misappropriating $1 billion worth of oil products,” the Kyiv Independent reports. “The case involving Kolomoisky concerns the oil company Ukrnafa. Companies related to Kolomoisky reportedly owned about 42% of Ukrnafta until 2022. In October 2022, Kolomoisky, the former owner of Ukraine’s largest lender Privatbank, was put on trial. National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).”
Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings, which paid Hunter Biden $1 million a year between 2014 and Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president, is officially owned by former Environment Minister Mykola Zlotchevsi.
However, writing in “Secret Empires”, Peter Schweizer noted that Ihor Kolomoisky is probably the true owner of Burisma Holdings: in 2011, “Burisma’s ownership structure was quietly transferred to a Cyprus-based company called Brosity Investments. … Zlochevsky’s name is still attached to the company, but Burisma’s main subsidiaries are now Ihor. It lists the same business address as a natural gas firm controlled by a controversial Ukrainian oligarch named Kolomoisky.

In 2015, the International Monetary Fund A $17.5 billion aid package to Ukraine was claimed by the IMF $5.6 billion Disappeared from PrivatBank because of shady lending practices under Kolomoisky, Reuters reports. PrivatBank was nationalized in 2016 and Kolomosicki has been fighting to get it back ever since.
In 2018, IMF corporate investigations consultancy Kroll released the findings of its investigation, saying Privatbank had “been involved in large-scale and organized fraud over a period of at least 10 years ending in December 2016.” Kolomoisky denied the allegations.
The Daily Mail called Kolomoisky “a ‘James Bond villain’ oligarch who is said to keep sharks in his office to intimidate his enemies” and “a warlord who helped Volodymyr Zelensky rise to power”:
Although Zelensky is far from a billionaire businessman, he supported the then-actor during his 2019 presidential bid with his media empire.
The US-sanctioned mogul ‘laundered $5.5 billion through a tangle of shell companies, buying factories and commercial properties across the US heartland,’ the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists claimed.
According to Forbes, he once deployed ‘hundreds of hired thugs armed with baseball bats, iron bars, gas and rubber bullet pistols and chainsaws’ to take over a steel factory by force.
He once wanted to push an oil company lobby out of a coffin row and filled his shark tank with bloody chum when he wanted to intimidate opponents.
When Russia first tried to annex Ukraine after the 2014 Euromaidan revolution, Kolomoisky began banking on the neo-Nazi Azov Regiment and recasting himself as a fierce defender of the homeland.
The government was forced to provide a £4.5 billion bailout to prevent the private bank from collapsing, and the money was soon hidden away in places as far afield as Cleveland, Ohio. The Daily Mail reported.

In fact, his real boss at Burisma Holdings, Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky, was Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s boss before he became Ukraine’s president.

On November 16, 2016, before Donald Trump took office, former Vice President Joe Biden put extraordinary pressure on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to nationalize a private bank:
Biden: Let me ask you one thing before I forget. I understand that Privatbank requires the head of the NBU to decide on a specific date when to start the changeover process. I was told, and I share this position, that the date will not be decided until it is agreed with you. And I said you need to go back to the date resolution and I will talk to you about this date. Because something I don’t want to happen is approaching. I don’t want Trump to be in a position where he looks like he’s willing to circumvent our policy, where the financial system could collapse, and where he’s going to block the allocation of funds to Ukraine. That’s how it looks until complicated unfamiliar details are considered.
Therefore, I respectfully recommend that everything that can be done to pressure Privatbank to close, to accept the next tranche from the IMF, is critically important to your economy and physical security.
I know it’s hard. Kolomoisky is a pain in the ass and a problem for everyone, but it’s really critical that you deal with it now. And all will be well. I want you to call the head of NBU and support her. Let her know you’re there for her when she decides on a date and moving forward.
Poroshenko: What I have heard from you is very important. I expect to receive the final report on the audit from Ernst & Young on Tuesday, November 22nd. And we agreed that I, the Prime Minister, the Finance Minister, the head of the NBU. I also invited Arseny and other security officials …
We should meet and decide on a date. After November 22, the only reason I have an audit report is because Kolomoisky is voting in parliament, where he has a significant number of members. The Prime Minister asked me to vote on the budget first and then start the process. This is confidential information, but…
Biden: I’ll keep it a secret…
The Ukrainian Cabinet officially confirmed the decision on private bank nationalization on December 18, 2016.
Biden pressured Poroshenko to fire Viktor Shokin, Ukraine’s prosecutor general who was investigating Burisma at the time, in exchange for a $1 billion IMF loan.
On Feb. 16, 2016, Poroshenko told Biden:
Poroshenko: Joe, I have some good news for you. Yesterday, or was it the day before yesterday, I met with the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin. Despite the absence of any allegations of corruption and evidence of any illegal actions, I specifically asked him to resign. According to the results of our meeting, despite the support in Parliament, he promised to resign, showing his state position. And an hour ago he brought a written resignation letter.
Biden: cool

Ask yourself why @JoeBiden Did Trump Threaten Ukrainian President Poroshenko About Private Bank After Becoming President? The same bank was used to funnel huge sums of money to the Biden family from Ukraine. Is Ukraine still a cash cow for them? https://t.co/lh3U7CM0zI
