The bodies have since been buried according to Islamic principles, the news website reported.
The Upper East Regional Security Council is reportedly locked in an emergency meeting to discuss the ongoing events in that part of the country, as the families of the deceased await to hear how they intend to seek justice for the deceased.
On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayeriga alleged that military men killed seven civilians in the town.
After several reports of gunfire across Bawku township on Tuesday evening, people were accused of being killed by soldiers.
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the infliction of fatal casualties on innocent civilians by members of the Ghana Armed Forces today in Bawku. This is totally unacceptable and I will leave no stone unturned in my fight for compensation for these victims,” MLAs said.
In an attempt to maintain calm and order, they fired indiscriminately at locals running for cover and attacked innocent people.
Among the seven was a small boy who burned himself to death after setting fire to the grass near his hiding place.
