Bill Maher is joining the ranks of CNN.
CNN airs segments of Bill Maher’s HBO show after the show on Friday nights.
Vanity Fair reported:
CNN is adding comedian Bill Maher to its Friday night lineup. Beginning this Friday at 11:30pm ET, the network will begin airing segments of Overtime, Maher’s weekly HBO late-night show, Real Time with Bill Maher, during CNN Tonight. HBO and CNN share a parent company called Warner Bros. Discovery. The news was first reported by the Los Angeles Times, which reported on the debate surrounding CNN earlier this month using Puck Maher’s later shows, which previously only aired on YouTube.

Maher’s addition comes after CNN CEO Chris Licht reported that he was considering the comedian to host one of his prime time shows. CNN has been without a permanent 9pm host since Chris Cuomo was fired in late 2021, and its 10pm slot since October when Don Lemon moved to mornings; Alisyn Camerota is filling in for Lemon and Laura Coates is hosting the show at 11 p.m. CNN executives apparently tapped Maher, Trevor Noah and Jon Stewart as all potential “news entertainment” figures to fill the void, according to Semaphore’s Max Tani. “Executives have discussed turning 9pm to 12am into a series of variety show-style programs,” reports Tani. Licht, who came to CNN after six years as executive producer of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, dismissed the notion that he was simply looking to plop a late-night comedian into CNN’s vacant prime-time chair. “I’ve worked on a comedy show. And it takes 200 people to produce a real comedy show. So no, he’s not going to be so stupid as to damage the brand of comedy and news by trying to do a comedy show on CNN,” Licht told the LA Times’ Stephen Battaglio in an interview published Monday. Instead, Licht said, he’s “for news. with culturally relevant figures from the worlds of entertainment, sports and comedy who can bring fresh and unique perspectives” and “help expand our primetime appeal”.
Prominent leftists attack Bill Maher.
He was accused of “talking about right-wing culture war” even though he is a liberal.
So runs the remainder of Bill Maher @cnn Friday night. As a veteran guest on that show — not that it tops CNN’s 92k demo rating average — what about profanity? pic.twitter.com/P4vDIWVVdt

To be clear: I’m not saying that no one is ever ‘cancelled’ or that there is no censorship; I’d say that right-wing, reactionary white men will be the loudest about this.

Bill Maher is really perfect for CNN to be honest. False equivalencies, advancing right-wing culture war talking points, fighting for the status quo and that smug face. A tapper can be jealous because he can be trafficked.

“1619 Project” founder Nicole Hanna-Jones also attacked Maher.
Fox News reported:
Nicole Hanna-Jones, founder of the “1619 Project” and proponent of Critical Race Theory (CRT), addressed Maher directly on Twitter. “Bill, you’ve obviously never read the #1619Project,” Wells wrote, challenging a statement Maher made in a recent conversation with actor Bryan Cranston on his podcast.
“[I]”The more you understand what the 1619 book says, that it’s just the essence of America and that we’re irretrievable, that’s wrong,” Maher said, pushing back against teaching CRT in school.
