An end to Covid emergency declarations means people will have to pay out-of-pocket costs for Covid tests, vaccinations and treatments.

President Joe Biden told Congress on Monday that he would end the twin national states of emergency to address COVID-19 on May 11, as much of the world returns to normal nearly three years after it was first declared.
The move, ending national emergency and public health emergency declarations, would formally restructure the federal coronavirus response, treating the virus as a localized threat to public health that can be managed through the agencies’ general authorities.
It comes as lawmakers have already ended emergency provisions that kept millions of Americans uninsured during the pandemic. Along with the drawdown of much of the federal COVID-19 relief funding, it also moves the development of vaccines and treatments away from the direct management of the federal government.
Biden’s announcement came in a statement opposing resolutions brought to the floor by House Republicans this week to end the state of emergency immediately. House Republicans are also gearing up to launch investigations into the federal government’s response to COVID-19.
