The implementation of the initiative is expected to make renting in Ghana more affordable and accessible to all Ghanaians.
“Our aim is to implement this project in all 16 regions of Ghana and provide our services to any Ghanaian adult who is employed in a company or self-employed and making affordable monthly rent payments” NRAS says on its website.
You must first apply for assistance from NRAS and once your application is approved, NRAS will pay your rent advance directly to the landlord while you repay it in monthly instalments.
Applicants must show proof of employment (3 months payslips), proof of income (3 months official bank statements or mobile money statements) or audited financial statement (for business owners).
Applicants must complete an online or paper application and submit income, occupation, identification, a passport photograph and an application processing fee of 100 cedis to the NRAS office. The scheme will verify the authenticity of your application and supporting documents.
Within 5 to 10 business days, it will assess your affordability for the rental amount and notify you of the acceptance or rejection of your application.
If your application is accepted, you will be advised to start searching for an apartment or room and once it is found, the rent advance payment will be made directly to the landlord then you are now free to occupy the rented room or apartment and make monthly payments. Rent payment to NRAS at the beginning of every month.
