After several days of silence and with much of the nation watching riots Friday night, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer quietly issued a statement in response to a Project Veritas video by Pfizer research director Jordan Tristan Walker talking about Pfizer exploring “directed evolution” research on Covid. -19 virus.
Pfizer denies the benefit of functional or directed evolution research on viruses. However, in some cases it said it would engineer a virus mutation, “when the entire virus has no known functional mutations, such virus can be engineered to enable assessment of antiviral activity in cells. “

Pfizer responds to research claims

New York, NY, January 27, 2023 – Allegations have recently been made regarding the function and direction of evolution research at Pfizer, and the company wants to set the record straight.
In the ongoing development of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, Pfizer has not conducted the benefit of the work or directed the development research. Working with collaborators, we have researched where the original SARS-CoV-2 virus expresses a spike protein with a new type of concern. This work is undertaken after public health officials identify a new variant of concern. This research provides us with a way to rapidly assess the ability of an existing vaccine to induce neutralizing antibodies against a newly identified mutation of concern. We then make these data available through peer-reviewed scientific journals and use them as one of the steps in determining whether a vaccine update is needed.
Additionally, to meet US and global regulatory requirements for our oral therapy, PAXLOVID™, Pfizer will undertake in vitro work (eg, in a laboratory culture dish) to identify potential resistance mutations to nirmatrelvir, one of the two components of PAXLOVID. With naturally evolving viruses, it is important to routinely assess antiviral activity. Much of this work is carried out using computer simulations or variants of the core protease – the non-infectious part of the virus. In a limited number of cases where the full virus does not contain any known function mutations, such virus can be engineered to enable assessment of antiviral activity in cells. In addition, in vitro resistance selection experiments are carried out in our safe biosafety level 3 (BSL3) laboratory in cells incubated with SARS-CoV-2 and nirmatrelvir, to assess whether the core protease can mutate to yield resistant strains of the virus. It is important to note that these studies are required by US and global regulators for all antiviral products and are conducted by many companies and academic institutions in the US and around the world.
Fact-based information rooted in sound science is critical to overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, and Pfizer is committed to transparency and helping alleviate the devastating burden of this disease.
The original Project Veritas statement released on January 25th (excerpt):
Jordan Trishton Walker, Pfizer Director of Research and Development, Strategic Operations – mRNA Scientific Planner: “One of the things we’re exploring is, why don’t we transform it? [COVID] We can create – proactively develop new vaccines, right? So, we have to do it. If we’re going to do that, there’s such a risk as you can imagine – nobody wants to have a pharma company mutating f**king viruses.
…Project Veritas today released a new video exposing Pfizer executive Jordan Trishton Walker, who claims his company is exploring a way to “mute” COVID through “directed evolution” to preempt the development of future vaccines.
Directed evolution differs from gain-of-function, Walker says, which is defined as “a mutation that confers a new or enhanced activity in a protein.” In other words, it means that a virus like COVID can become more potent depending on the mutation / scientific experiment done on it.
Pfizer executives told Veritas journalists about their company’s plans for a COVID vaccine, but admitted that people wouldn’t like it if the information went public.
“We are one of the things [Pfizer] Exploring means, why don’t we transform it [COVID] We can create – proactively develop new vaccines, right? So, we have to do it. If we’re going to do that, there’s a risk that you can imagine — nobody wants to have a pharma company mutating f**king viruses,” Walker said.
“From what I hear they are [Pfizer scientists] Making it better [COVID mutation process], but they’re going slow because everyone is very cautious – obviously they don’t want to speed it up too much. I think they’re trying to make it an exploratory thing because you don’t want to advertise that you’re figuring out future variants,” he said.
“Don’t tell anyone. Promise you won’t tell anyone. That’s the way [the experiment] We put the virus into monkeys and let them infect each other, and we collect serial samples from them.
Walker drew parallels between this current Pfizer project and what might happen at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“You have to control a lot to make sure it’s a virus [COVID] Just because you mutate doesn’t create something that goes everywhere. To be honest, I doubt that’s the way the virus started in Wuhan. It makes no sense that this virus emerged from nowhere. It’s bullsh*t,” he said.
“You don’t have to do gain-of-function research with viruses. Not regularly. We can make these selective structure mutations to make them more powerful. Research is going on about that. I don’t know how it works. Better not have any more outbreaks because of Jesus Christ,” he said.
Walker told Veritas journalists that COVID has been key to Pfizer’s recent business success:
Walker had a meltdown when he confronted James O’Keefe about his remarks.
