Speaking in an interview in Accra, the former chairman of the finance committee in parliament said the demand by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of parliament that the finance minister should be sacked will not materialise.
“The president says Ken is doing a wonderful job. He says he is doing an excellent job. He never said he (Ofori-Atta) would be sacked during the rebellion of the NPP MPs, he told them to allow the IMF talks to finish to revisit the issue.
“… He (Ofori-Atta) is not going anywhere. He is not going to resign; Why should he resign? According to the President, the person is doing an excellent job.
“The Finance Minister represents the President. I caught one of the MPs telling Ofori-Atta to reduce the e-levy to 1.5 per cent but he did not listen so he should be sacked. The budget is the President’s budget and the Cabinet meets to decide the rate of e-levy. Is this a ground for the resignation or dismissal of Ofori-Atta,” he said in a tweet.
In an earlier interview, Dr. Vice President Dr. said that the country’s economy is growing rapidly. Mahmudu Bawumia would make a good president.
He explained that although he did not support Nana Addo Bawumia when he named him as his running mate, the latter has proved himself worthy of support.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s economic analysis and his appropriate responses to problems won him over.
Dr. Bawumia’s hard work stands out and he will be a good president in the future, he said.
