The reshuffle, which has generated mixed reactions while strongly rejected by party members in some parts of the country while hailed by others, has the potential to cause the NDC to lose the next election, the former majority leader believes.
“This is not the time to make somebody somebody, this is not the time to make somebody somebody, this is the time to rally all of us to fight NPP so that we can’t win the elections, not to make heroes. This is not the time.” Awoka said this on Tuesday on Accra-based City FM’s Eyewitness News.
The decision of the NDC to reshuffle its leadership in the Legislative House was duly communicated through a letter to Speaker Alban Bagbin and the outgoing leaders were equally informed of the change.
Tamale-South Member of Parliament Haruna Idrisu, who was the NDC Minority Leader, has been replaced by Cassiel Ato Forson, Member of Parliament for Azumako Enyan Isiam. James Klutse Awezi, the Ketu-North MP, has also been replaced by his deputy, Emmanuel Armah.fruit coffee, Ellembele Constituency Member of Parliament, Agbodza who is governed by Kwame, Adaklu Constituency Member of Parliament Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Ashanti Region Member of Parliament Asawase has been appointed as Chief Whip.
However, Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyo-Ghansa retained their positions as first and second vice-captains respectively.
The reshuffle has sparked angry reactions among some NDC legislators, who have not complained to the party that they were not consulted and that they were not comfortable with the old leadership.
Bolgatanga East MP, Dominic Aine and Tamale Central MP, Murtala Muhammed are some opponents of restructuring.
Meanwhile, the NDC, led by its President Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey maintains that the necessary consultations were done before the decision was taken, so it cannot be reversed.
