Atsu’s death was confirmed on Saturday morning by his agent Nana Sechere, who took to Twitter to break the sad news.
“Sadly it is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce to all well-wishers that the body of Christian Atsu has been recovered this morning.” he wrote on Twitter.
“My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.
“While we make the necessary arrangements, I ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
A football player was trapped under the rubble after a devastating earthquake hit parts of Turkey a week ago.
Atsu, who was on the books of Turkish side Hatayspor, was caught under the rubble along with the club’s sporting director, Taner Savut.
Both have not been found despite a search for several days with the football world praying for their safety and hoping for their rescue.
Tributes poured in from far and near following confirmation of Atsu’s unfortunate passing.
