Yesterday, The Gateway Pundit reported that the Pentagon had been tracking a Chinese spy balloon flying over Montana “for days.” The Department of Defense ultimately decided against shooting it down because it was flying over a sparsely populated area of Montana and did not pose an imminent threat.
“The fact that this balloon overran Montana airspace creates significant concern that Malmstrom Air Force Base and the United States’ intercontinental missile fields were targets of this intelligence gathering.” Sen. Steve Daines of Montana said in a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. “It is essential to locate any compromised US national security assets, and any telecom or IT infrastructure within the US that is being used by this spy balloon.”
Now, the Canadian government is reporting a possible “second incident.”
In a press release posted late last night or early this morning, Canada said “Canadians are safe and Canada is taking steps to ensure the security of its airspace, including monitoring of a potential second event.“
It is unclear if this is referring to a second Canadian sighting of this particular balloon being tracked by the United States, or if it was a separate balloon entirely.
